I don't know whether it was in India or globally.. but as I concluded that technologies with cool names were emerging. At that time, hardly had I the sense of what a computer was, but at the same time I was fascinated. Shifting the focus to know.. I speak of cool shortforms which I expand into fullforms when my friends look at me in awe. Things have changed rapidly. I can't track the changes, but it is clear that things disguised as 'technologies' are ruling the computing scenario. At the same time, I would like to put forward a debate that technologies are not what are creating the revolution, it is the 'idea'. Take for example, the concept of wikis, forums and blogs. What are they? Finally they are nothing but ideas. A wiki can be made using JSP, ASP, PHP or any server side technology. There is no technology associated with it. It is the idea behind it which fuels it's thrust into this big world. At the same time, technologies play a very important role in actually making this ideas work. The shift from 2D gaming to 3D gaming, can be said to be a simple difference of just adding polygons and a third axis to them. But if it were not for the cutting edge 3D cards and software, these ideas wouldn't have developed further. Technolgies and ideas work hand in hand, but the stepping stones are commited by the idea. The idea of creating an artificial wave like Waikiki in Kansas was considered 'insane'. But accompanied by the best engineers in the world and with great software from Autodesk, it was no problem for the engineers of the project in the creation of another surfer's paradise. Lack of technology relates to late realisation of the idea. Leneardo da vinci had the idea of a flying machine. But as there were no technological aids to his idea, his idea was nothing but a subject for ridicule over the years. Only when wright brothers could realize the idea, the flying machine was built. Finally... ideas have always been changing the world. Ideas have always been the forefront of development. Technology may be as large and prime as an army and idea may be as small as a nail. But as they say, "For want of a nail, the kingdom was lost".. P.S: And by the way, Waikiki is still in Hawaii. -Rohan Prabhu rohan2kool@gmail.com|W|P|114389205370197921|W|P||W|P|4/01/2006 04:17:00 AM|W|P|Anonymous Pallab|W|P|I agree with you.
Another example is Web 2.0. Web 2.0 has become a huge craze. In a way it is nothing new. Even AJAX which has gained popularity only recently was invented in 1999. However, the idea behind web 2.0 sites like newsvine, protopage and digg is certainly new.5/11/2006 02:25:00 AM|W|P|Blogger lennyerickson1643692645|W|P|Get any Desired College Degree, In less then 2 weeks.
